My application to the A.C.T Department on Education is due tomorrow (make that today). I'm writing a statement concerning my performance as a classroom teacher. Alas, I've only done the one prac. This process isn't easy for the Grad Dips. We've only been at this one semester and we don't have our first unit marks back yet. The application isn't critical because I think I'm going to go straight overseas, plus theres the all important interview. But it'd be nice to have some back-up contract offers. I have to knuckle down and finish it in a couple of hours because I can't go without sleep tonight.
I have to drive to Sydney tomorrow morning. It's the first time I'll be doing the trip on my own and I'm kinda nervous (I know, I'm 22, I should get over it). It's just that it's kinda a long time to talk to yourself, which is what I do when I'm in a car on my own.

I was in Sydney with Scott 2 weeks ago for the Brand New concert. We had an awesome time. Brand New had never played Sydney before and they put on the most amazing show. It's nice when bands really push themselves and respond to a thrilled audience of long term fans who had never had a chance to see them live before. They played a full two hours. The first hour they ripped through tracks from the first two albums, including songs that they rarely play live anymore. It was one of those dream sets where they played not only the singles, but picked some album tracks that happened to be personal favourites. The second set opened with one of the instrumentals on the new albums. The live interpretation had jaws dropping all of the place. No less than 5 percussionists thumping out a beat that got everyone moving. The track sounds weak when I listen to it on the record now. It should only be heard with the drum beats ripping through your body. The rest of the second hour consisted of almost the entire new album. I've seen a lot of bands live, bands who are a lot more famous and sell a lot more records than Brand New. But I can't remember having a better live music experience. Even with the massive bruise left by some emo kid's boots on my leg.
Actually, that was my only problem. Some of the crowd. I read a concert review on some guy's blog that suggested that Brand New fans should be Tool fans in training and instead, they seem to belong to the emo crowd. They are much better than the category they are put into and thus deserve fans who aren't moronic 15 year old girls wearing too much eyeliner and discussing what they're going to pierce next. I swear, the conversation I had to listen to outside the venue killed more of my braincells than a whole week on binge drinking would have.
The rest of the Sydney trip was fun, Shopping in the city and a quiet bus ride home. I wasn't planning on going back up so soon, but,

My grandfather got really ill. His heart's giving way. He wasn't supposed to live through last weekend, but he did and is gradually getting a little better. Unfortunatly a full recovery is unlikely. It's just a matter of time. My mum has been staying with my grandmother all week and I'm driving up to spend a few days with them and then bring her home. It's not going to be a happy trip, but I want to see my grandparents. I'm so worried for my grandmother. She's of a generation that didn't necessarily feel the need for independence, for instance, she's never learnt to drive. I'm concerned that losing her husband will cause her to lose purpose in her everyday life. I'm also concerned that If she's living on her own, my freeloading uncle and aunt will take advantage of her hospitality and drive her mad. But that's a whole other story.
