I just got back from having a 'discussion' with the police/animal control and the neighbors.
I set a trap and got one of the adult cats. So I called animal control and they came out. While I was waiting for her to arrive, I found two more very small, VERY SICK kittens and put them in a box. Also saw another adult, making a total of 11 cats.
When AC arrived, I explained the entire situation to them and then the neighbors came out and it got ugly. "I hope you're happy, you've upset a little girl." blah blah blah. After AC explained that they can't be coming onto my yard to feed the cats, she started in on the outbuildings (I'm on the very fringe of the city limits, so this used to be a farm house, complete w/ chicken coop and outbuildings.) Saying they are a health hazard, complaining about the stuff around them, none of which belong to me. It's been there for YEARS (her words) and yet she only has a problem because I want to control the cat problem. I have a suggestion, STAY IN YOUR OWN FREAKIN YARD!!!
So anyway, AC took the adult cat and the kittens that I caught, said not to trap anymore adults over the weekend (but I can catch any kitten I want and give to my friend, said with a wink and smile out of earshot). Ultimately, they'll take the adults, spay/neuter them and return them, but the kittens will be taken to the shelter where they can be adopted. I don't know what will happen to the two sick ones. It made me ill to my stomach to see them.
I really dislike having neighbors.... Stuff like this is why I want to live far far out in the country.... where I can't even SEE another building that doesn't belong to me.
