Okay! First day of school was today and it wasn't so bad. I've decided I'm going to stop being whiny and sad and negative about this year. It isn't healthy and it isn't going to make it go any faster or get any better. So, instead I'm going to focus on the good things, because even though its definitely a rough year, it's not as bad as i thought it was going to be at least. So! Here I'm going to list GOOD things about this new school year:
1. Met half of the self contained kids I'm teaching and they all seem very sweet and excited to have me come in.
2. Their teachers so far are all about collaborating and doing lots of projects in conjunction with their class activities.
3. Since I'm traveling all the time, no one really knows where I'm supposed to be, which might come in handy at times....
4. Everyone feels bad for me and my shitty situation and is being really supportive and helpful.
5. The art room at the intermediate school is AIR CONDITIONED!!!!!
6. The kids so far at the intermediate school are all very nice, but you know, thats first day of school business, subject to change! I mean, nooo they are awesome :)
7. because i'm traveling I actually get to see most of my old friends who have been spread about the district, so that's really nice!
8. I get to leave early everyday because most of the primary schools I'm at are on an earlier school day than the intermediate school.
9. I travel but my class load is actually very light this year.
10. I won't even BE there from mid November to Mid March :)
I could go on, but 10 is a good number to stop at. Tomorrow I meet some of my general ed primary kids, one first grade and one kindergarten, then I go back to do fifth grade all afternoon. I hope the Kindergarteners don't stare at me and tell me they're "Tired" like the last ones I had two years ago! This time I am prepared though, I have a cute book about pizza and we're going to start off by making a pizza out of ripped paper and a plate, which is actually kind of lame, but it is a good assessment of their OT skills, plus for some reason they love it and my first graders last year kept asking me, "Remember when we made paper pizza?! Remember!!!!!?????" So i'm going to say it's a crowd pleaser for the first class.
In fun news for all of you, now I'm back with tales of kindergarten! Whoo hoo!! Who will pee on the floor tomorrow!?
