Oh my god.

i got to school today at ten to 8, had the faculty breakfast etc. did random weird things i had to do, like get my id photo taken and buy colored contact paper, got starbucks, saw a girl i went to high school with (that was neat! i'll see her often apparantly now!) and got to work in my classroom.

It took forever. and i'm still not done. The room was SO dusty, i had like a million allergy attacks. the storage closet was such a mess, the last teacher just left all this SHIT everywhere. There was a shelf full of old shitty markers, i just started swiping entire shelves into the garbage. it was ridiculous. She ordered so much new stuff, what was the point of all the old stuff still sitting there in giant piles? how did she FIND ANYTHING?

I really should have taken before pictures so you could see what i mean. But, when i'm totally done with the room you can be sure i will post pictures of it in all its awesomeness. Its turning out really well. My parents came around 6:30pm and helped me get most of my supplies checked in. i cleaned all surfaces, cleaned both closets, set up my computer, mostly, and the principal yelled at me to go home at 7:30!! I didn't leave until 9, but i'm much more comfortable with things now. The room is in decent shape, its getting there. It doesnt look like a bomb hit it anymore, its starting to look like a classroom. yay! I can't wait til a month from now when everything is set up and i start doing centers with teh kids. I stole the idea from a woman in one of my arted communities and i think its going to work out well. This way when kids finish early, so long as they did the assignment to the fullest of their ability, they will be able to experiment with other media while the rest of the class catches up. i'm going to start with like four centers and rotate them i think. we'll see. I need a curriculum first!!

I also had an art level meeting today and the principal told me taht whatever supplies i need i can have. his exact words were, "Give her whatever she wants! I want her to be able to teach those kids to the best of her ability and she if she needs something, she's got it!" Awesome! now i can get book binding needles and thread, hoorah! I'm going to have my 8th graders make their own sketchbooks and make the covers with wallpaper paste i think. It will be cool and take some time too :)

I'm going to LL Weans on Monday. I have always wanted to go there and buy actual teacher things. yay! I'm still nervous, but thanks to today, i feel a little bit more secure.

i just hope the kids like me. I did a lot of wiping off the tables today, where some nasty little thing had written "Miss WQREUIPRUIQOP is a BITCH!" and other such lovelies. I hope they don't write that I'M a bitch! I'll cry (when i get home)!
