Christmas! Christmas was good. My parents got me Ugg boots, for reasons passing understanding, but they are soft and warm and my feet are always cold, especially at my parents' house because my dad is morally opposed to the heater, or something, so it was a good gift. My brother got me the first season of NCIS, which I am super, super excited about ( Read more... )

It is indeed! I'm making black and whites, because I haven't had any in FOREVER, and it seemed like that day. Also I think I dreamed about them last night. Mmmmm.

You're making black and white cookies? I love them!!!!! And I haven't had them in forever, either! I only got them at Italian bakeries. If you have a recipe, I'd love a link to it.

Mmmm . . . cookies. :-)

I am! I haven't made these myself from the particular recipe that I'm using, but it's from Smitten Kitchen, and I trust Deb not to steer me wrong, especially with traditional NYC deli classics.

Oooh! Maybe I'll make these for my co-workers instead of chocolate chip. I can make chocolate chip cookies in my sleep but black and whites . . . more work but what else to do on a snowy evening?

I don't have lemon extract but I have half a lemon. Think that would work?

Hmm. I think possibly lemon zest might be better? A teaspoon of extract is the same as a teaspoon of grated peel, according to my bottle of extract.

Yay! I am making them today, actually-- I got distracted by the West Wing last night, lol.

Gosh, what a yummy batter cookie and I haven't even frosted them yet. They taste like New York. Yum. :-)

The edges of mine want to burn a leetle. Did you find that? Alas, I am out of parchment paper so I think it's the non-stick spray and my fast oven. I'm going to try them at 350 and see.

The batter is mmmmmm delicious. Mine almost didn't make it to the pan!

Yeah-- I know the recipe says 18-20, but with my oven it took about 14-15 minutes per batch before the edges started to turn a nice golden-brown and it was time to take 'em out and put 'em on the racks.

Mine take about 10 minutes. I have a hot, hot oven and have been baking pies all evening. It's hard to know when they are done. I keep eating them to check!

350 seems to keep the edges form scorching but I have to take them out while most of the cookie is still white. Hope that's okay. They don't take undercooked. They taste soft and yummy. :-)

That sounds perfect! They should come out as soon as those edges start to brown-- the centers should still be nice and done and they'll look pretty and white on top. And they will taste soooooooooooooo good. I ate a couple myself, just to check. ;)
