“Miss, do not jump…uh….just keep calm and please……please don’t jump”

It was faith at least that was what Lee Donghae would like to believe. He remembered walking around the Han River’s bridge with a heavy heart on his sleeve. His worries of parents disapproval and harsh training was completely swept aside when he discovered the petite’s brunette in front of him was indeed trying to jump off the bridge and into the Han River.

“Why shouldn’t I? It’s not like you give a fuck anyway…..nobody does”

What a foul mouth for such a pretty girl? He thought to himself back then as he swallowed the big lump of anxiousness in his throat and try to stay as calm as possible. He didn’t care really but it would appear to others around as inhumane if he didn’t stop her from doing such an outrageous thing.

“O-Of course, I-I do….uh…just, here….l-let me he-help you down”

He slowly approached the stranger, offering her his hand. Donghae could tell she was not quite the average looking girl from afar and now that she was so close to him, he wasn’t very sure whether she was a human being or a fallen angel. She was…..what was the word?
Captivating, she was no ordinary girl that you would see walking in the street.

“No! Fucking hell! L-leave me a-lone, leave me alone like all the r-est”

She shouted at him in perfect English as she pushed him away harshly when he reached for her slender arm. He must say, for a short girl like her, she sure was one tough cookie. The brunette’s accent was so heavy that Donghae could barely understand here

“Miss, I don’t know you or what you are like but….I’m sure that somewhere right now, somebody cares for you……right now, some worried to death because of you and right now……I, myself don’t want to see you end your life so early”

The little brunette tore her eyes away from the river as she turned her head around to stare at him coldly. To his surprise, she turned back quickly and soon started shedding more tears than she already was. Donghae let out a tiring sigh as he quickly took a hold of her waist and pulled her away from the railing.

“Shh….it’s going to be okay”

They potentially stood there for near an hour. Lee Donghae remembered standing there with his arms wrapped around her, trying to comfort her and was desperately seeking for some hope that people who walked pass by that fortunate night wouldn’t see things so negatively. He also remembered sneaking the girl into his room around three in the morning, just to later finds out that she has left with no traces, no note, no letter, not even her name. He didn’t know what the reason for the odd feeling was but he felt rather empty, even saddened when she wasn’t there on his bed the next day.

“Hello, I’m Jung Sooyeon, let’s all be close friends”

One month later, she make it seemed like that night never occurred. She was once again, standing there, right in front of him only this time with big smile and jet-black hair instead of swollen eyes and messed up hair. She looked much…..happier, much more cheerful and Donghae couldn’t help but let a smile slipped.

“Whoa, the chick is hot”

Never in his life did he ever felt the urge beat someone up that badly. He tried to crack a joke or say something witty like he normally does when he’s with Eunhyuk but he somehow fail when her mouth fell open when she caught a glimpse of him before taking her respective seat.

“Please, don’t tell anyone about that night”

She bowed with her eyes squeezed shut in such a cute way that he thought his heart has melted. He chuckled lightly as he ruffled her hair playfully, something inside him was jumping a little and he didn’t really understood why.

“I probably will be in deep shit with my parents if I open my mouth anyways, so let’s just say this is a little secret between the two of us then?”

“E-Eh? Th-Thank you…uh…….”

“It’s DongHae, I know your name is Sooyeon but I like the idea of calling you Jessica”

********

“Yah! Sica, we’re going out, wanna come?”

It has been three years now and it almost has become a tradition that Jessica would hang out with his gang, well hers now too. Jessica makes it seemed as if she has been here all along, like she has always been a part of his life. Sometime she would skip toward him, her eyes gleaming with joy and started chatting to him while he just nodded his head dumbly, mesmerized by how she seemed to glow almost all the time. Then there was some time she would call him in the middle of the night, crying and sometime even cursing the life out of him. It would often be about her parents, training but most of all her sister. It was undeniable that the two was compared more than any normal pair of sisters would be, they were both in the same company and both of them were racing for the finish line of debutting. Donghae couldn’t help but think why
people would choose Krystal over Jessica, why they would even compare the two because to him, Jung Sooyeon was perfect and he was lucky enough to be able to be there for her. Sometime he ends up, catching a bus in a hurry; she would be there, looking all vulnerable, soaked with tears and twice in rain. To his relieved, she was in an surprisingly cheerful today.

“Wh-Oh…uh…you guys go on, I don’t feel like going out today”

.......and to his disappointment for the first time she didn’t want to join them for their friends’ outing after school.

“Such a buzz kill sometime, see you around tomorrow and go on cyworld”

Stella shouted in English which he failed to understand, Jessica gave her a light nod with a forced smile before walking off and that was when Donghae knew he wasn’t going to eat dokbokki or go dancing with Eunhyuk that evening. He bid goodbye to their friends and ignored their discontents groans as he quickly ran up to catch up with the smaller girl.

“Aish….you can do this, you are Jung Sooyeon….you can definitely do something as easy as this”

It was possibly the most amusing thing he has ever seen in his life, Jung Sooyeon talking to herself was a rare event to come upon. She was standing there in front of the music room, pondering about an unknown subject to him. He decided not to disturb her thinking bubble just yet as he watched her from behind the lockers’ area, he was rather enjoying himself and he thought she couldn’t get more adorable that she already was daily.

“Je-“

“I-I…I didn’t mean to int-terrupt you…I-I’m so-sorry”

Without realizing, his mouth gapped open as his grip on his school’s bag loosened. A tall figure appeared out of the door of the abandoned music room, completely towering over Jessica as he whispered something into her ears with a small smile before the two entered the room in silence. That dark gloomy evening, Donghae saw something he has never seen when Jessica was with him, that small little tiny thing that he always wanted to see but have failed to for years. Her smile, it was the happiest, loveliest, prettiest smile that he has ever seen on her face and it wasn't because of him, it was because some other guy she met who knows for how long. He didn’t bother calling after her anymore, nor did he followed the two into the room. No, he tightened his hold on the bag that now seemed heavier than it ever was and stormed out of there, frustrated and maybe even furious.

He couldn’t possibly be in love with the girl he met three years ago at the Han River’s bridge right?

*******

Kim Jaejoong, that was his name.

You could say he was what every girl wanted. He looked like one of those guys, you would see in cheesy Korean dramas or on the cover of teenage girl’s magazines that he sees Jessica carrying around. He could sing well, he could dance well, he was every way possible better than Donghae was. Oh, and did he forget to mention that the guy also got Jung Sooyeon.

“Sorry but I can’t go today, Jae oppa promised to take me out today”

It was perfectly fine, she should spend times with her boyfriend anyways.

He wasn’t in love with her, he definitely wasn’t……

“Jae oppa, I miss you”

And she ran up to him at the speed of lightening, swung her arms around him as he hugged her tight with a big smile plastered on his face. It was a normal thing for her to miss her boy friend that was always busy or often overseas; it wasn’t like he cared anyways.

He wasn’t jealous, he definitely wasn’t…..

“Today is our first anniversary, he went through all the trouble to buy a couple ring for us”

Took the guy long enough but it’s none of his business anyways.

He didn’t want to run away, he really didn’t……

“Hae, he told me he love me today…..he probably doesn’t know how long, I’ve waited for him to say those three short words”

He hated listening to her talk about all those girly stuffs, he was just being a good friend anyways.

His heart wasn’t breaking, it definitely wasn’t………

“What do you think of Jae oppa?”

A lucky bastard that didn’t deserve her, neither of them did anyways.

There was no way denying, he had already handed her his heart and she won’t really hand it back.

At least not as a whole anyways………

******

“Let’s run away”

“W-What kind of j-joke is that?”

Jung Sooyeon didn’t cry that night, she looked almost calm actually. A soft smile was fixed on her face as lied down next to him and stared at the stars contently.

“It’s not….don’t you think it’s a great idea that the two of us can just disappear together?”

And she has got him wrapped around her tiny little finger. It certainly was a foolish idea but at the same time he couldn’t help but smile at how naive she was. Of course, he would like just to disappear with Jessica and never return ever again. It would just be the two of them, doing whatever they want to, no training, no parents, no stress just freedom.

“There’s nothing left for me to stay for, Jae is gone now…..would I sound stupid if I say he was the only reason I stayed?”

And looking back, he could see how silly it was for him to have these kinds of feelings for her.

She won’t ever return his feeling, will she?

************

“You look beautiful….”

Jessica could see him standing there, leaning against the door frame of her room as she stared into the mirror. Without even knowing, a small smile formed by itself. His hair was a big mess, the black tie around his unbuttoned collar was loosened in a way that only he could look good in, his outfit was all crinkled up and you might be finding this image of him quite different than she was because in her eyes, he was always handsome, even blinding.

“And you’re a mess”

He chuckled lightly as he came closer and closer until she could feel his breath on the nape of her neck. She hated how he does that particular action, it makes her felt so…….weak, so powerless.

“Miss me?”

On a normal basis, Jung Jessica would try to force a smile and think up a sarcastic remark to reply to him but she wanted to be a foolish girl like she used to be four years ago just for tonight. She knew she won’t ever forgive herself for what she was about to do to him and to her, she knew she should never do something like ‘love’ ever again but she still surrendered at the end.

“I think I'm kind of in love you, Hae……can you forgive me?”
