Howl had the most uncanny ability to put up a complete mental block to absolutely anything he deemed unnecessary. It was one of the first things she noticed about him - after realizing all of that nonsense about him eating the hearts of young girls and whatnot was simply not true. It also was perhaps his most bothersome trait of all, due in no small part to the fact that it was often her that he was blocking out.
He would not hear her quarrels. He would not hear her suggestions. Although, he was quite keen on hearing her compliments, as few and very far between as they were.
There was, however, just one thing that he did listen to, being the insufferable coward that he was. But, the man seemed to suffer from it enough, so Sophie only ever gave passing mention to his fear. Only with the sharpest barbs she could manage but never anywhere fatal.
Not like the buffoon would have noticed anyway.
