"We'll wake her."
Momiji stood solidly before the door, arms spread, preventing Akito from passing him. His head roared, telling him this was wrong, that it went against how he had been raised, everything he had been taught. But his heart knew better; his heart had always known better. Ever since the first time he'd lain eyes on that wonderful girl so long ago, he'd known that she would be it for them. It was an instinct that tugged on his insides, made him truly believe instead of simply clinging to that eternal optimism that made him who everyone thought he was.
"...No."
He would not let Akito near that girl, especially when he was so enraged. Akito's reign... was coming to an end. He could no longer hold more power over him than Tohru-chan could.
And he would never want him to.
"You're angry, so you'll end up taking it out on others. You shouldn't...you shouldn't do that. Akito-san...did something happen?"
"'Something' you say...?"
It was in that, the quietest of moments, that Momiji knew he had said the wrong thing. He had opened the wrong door. So he began to shut himself down - mental, emotional, sensory. He made himself numb so that when the dull thwap of the punch struck his face and blood began to fill his mouth he couldn't feel or taste a thing but his love for the girl he stood up for.
