Gokudera almost cannot believe how black the nighttime is. He wonders somewhere in the back of his mind if the new moon is mocking him for his foolishness.
He doesn't know where he is headed, only that his feet seem to know almost even better than his heart. His fine leather shoes, with their soles worn too smooth to have any traction left, carry him steadily over the pavement toward his destination. He sprints through neighbourhood after neighbourhood, some of them more familiar than he yet realises. And, finally, he understands where he is headed: the train station.
He channels the burst of fear that threatens to stop his heart into his legs, urging them to go faster. (Or is it grief, he feels? Or loneliness?) Suddenly, he collides at top speed with the person rounding the next corner.
She squawks loudly and it's all he can do to steady himself quickly enough to catch her. Apologies and self-deprecations fall from his mouth in droves until she breathes his name.
Then Gokudera looks up. And Haru is there before him. His heart fumbles as badly as his tongue but his eyes say more than his words ever could.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I love you and I'm sorry. Please. Don't go.
