END OF DAYS

I was looking at the the pictures of the devastation in Queensland today; places I've lived in and worked in have been evacuated, and the BBC are attempting to persuade me that the road myself and Teh Australian drove along exactly a year ago is not only utterly impassible, full of snakes, bull sharks and crocodiles. It's all a bit scary. I hope everyone I know over there is okay; we stayed in Toowoomba with one of Teh Australian's Darwin friends last year, who is fortunately okay after the GIANT INLAND TSUNAMI hit it.

I wouldn't be quite so worried if so many birds weren't DROPPING OUT OF THE GORRAM SKIES. Next thing you know, I'll be getting up early and being pleasant in the mornings. If that happens, start stocking up on tinned foods, y'all.

I signed up for a beginner's Arabic class (and a beginner's jewellery-making class) today. I really want to go back to Syria at some point, and I'd like to at least have a few words of the language. I think my confidence with my Irish has gone up significantly in the last three years (thanks, in large part, to having my Facebook and Firefox (theoretically) as Gaeilge). I need to find a way of brushing up on my French next, because I can barely string two words together anymore. I think I'm going to let the German go as let's face it, they speak better English than most natives, and nowhere else speaks German.
