Then there was Eurovision

May 19, 2009 00:49

I swear, I don't know where this year is going. How are we up to Eurovision already?! Particularly impressive, albeit serious, competition this year; I blame the Moskva influence. Some excellent quality in it, and that was without notable also-rans SUPERCZECHGYPSY and Belgian Dancing Elvis (thanks to ubiquitous_cat for the heads-up, and for hosting). Like fellow cognoscente artbroken, France and Moldova were among my favourites; I also really liked the Azerbaijan one, and house favourite entry Ukraine, who - coincidentally - was also wearing the most revealing outfit. I'm sure that had no bearing on her getting the highest vote from our house. Really. I did think Norway was adoreable as all hell, though not the best song.

For posterity, boxninja had winners Norway, and I had Iceland (2nd), Azerbaijan (3rd) and the UK (5th), so it was a very close call as to who was more smashed by the end of it. I think - as the "finish your drink on a douze points" rule had to be amended for him and the "all douze'n, all the time" Boy With The Eyes - he came out with a higher "alcohols undrunk" total than my circa 2004 record-breaking 17-bottles-of-wine-not-drunk.

And it's all over for another year. Coming up...heading to see Trek with an Old Corkonian recently relocated to the 'burgh, conventions, DVD watching (I've just started on 10-disc Evangelion) and apologies, although not necessarily in that order.
