Late night at the Hub and unexpected Weevil activity send Ianto Jones to bed alone. He conscientiously - and perhaps with unrealistic hope - leaves Jack's side of the bed empty, and curls up with half the pillows and most of the blankets, and a dog on his feet, to sleep. It's blissful and warm and lasts naught-point-two minutes before Ianto becomes aware of a knock on the front door, downstairs.
Convinced that Jack has forgotten his keys and for some reason doesn't feel like cheating and using the vortex manipulator as an easy in, Ianto grumpily dislodges his dog and drags himself downstairs, bleary-eyed and hair sticking up in places. He opens the door with a snarky comment on his lips, only to realize that it's not Jack standing on the doorstep. Of all the things Ianto expects, a rumpled and slightly battered Time Lord is not one of them.
"May I --" turns into inviting the future-Doctor inside. A mere question of interest has him spilling the entire story, over the best coffee, for Ianto's strangely compassionate ear. Before it's all over with, Ianto has ended up ensconced in bed with the other man - alien - curled up next to him, slipping back into sleep.
His last conscious thought is that it would be really inopportune for Jack to come home right now.
