I'm reading a series of fantasy novels that Gillian Bradshaw self-published a few years ago, and I recommend them, because they're about politics and biology and oppression. Start with Magic's Poison, then it's The Enchanted Archive, The Duke's Murder and The Iron Cage. They're not as excellent as The Beacon at Alexandria, but they're still quite enjoyable and creative.

I am woefully behind on The Good Wife. I need to get sick so I can spend a day in bed catching up and not feel guilty about it...
