The several scientists reading me might find this post interesting; it's a report of a study about children's perceptions of scientists, before and after a visit to Fermi Lab.
According to BoingBoing's summary of this study, people tend to associate "north" with "up" and therefore consider southern routes easier. Man, the human mind is a strange place. (And no, I haven't read the article yet.)
Pro Publica reports that workers doing cleanup work in the Gulf of Mexico are reporting ever-greater numbers of illnesses.
