This is a great essay about fat and our relationship to it. What we call "fat" is socially defined, and may have little basis in what is "really" fat. I think this point is important to recognize because it indicates how arbitrary our judgements can be about what is fat, and how we value fat in ourselves and others. Fat, then, becomes a dynamic between us and our culture, rather than a possession that we have or do not have.

In Other News, I have a story with a scene with a 2.5-year-old boy; would someone with a toddler, or recent experience with a toddler, be willing to take a look at that scene and let me know if the kid is believable? It's been a long time since I spent any time with toddlers. I don't need a beta, just a ground-truthing...

ETA: My day just improved immensely (not that it was bad anyway): I just received a box of Godiva chocolates from a professional organization I recently joined. I suspect they don't send all their members Godiva--it has to do with the new job, where I'm kind of important to them. How lovely! Nom nom nom. End edit.
