Hello out there!

Looks like JournalFen is being swamped by the influx of new users; I haven't been able to get in at all for the last ten minutes or so. Oh well, maybe things will quiet down later.

So, here's what I've been up to. Using antennapedia's fabulous ljmigrate tool, I've backed up and reposted my entire LiveJournal to my JournalFen "codyne" account. There were a couple of minor glitches: one out of 588 posts failed to copy over, but it was easy enough to locate the missing one and transfer it by hand. Also, all the posts reverted to my default icon, and stayed default even after uploading all my icons to JF. I am guessing that this is because JF uses an old version of the LiveJournal code that doesn't retain icon keyword information for missing icons. But, all in all, it was a very smooth and easy transition.

Now, I'm going through all my posts on JF and cleaning them up: changing the icons back to the originals, editing or deleting LJ-specific stuff like polls, changing links to images from LJ's scrapbook to a new pic storage folder I've created on my own domain, and adding memories for fic, trip report, and con report posts. I've been on LJ for a long time-just over five years-but I haven't been a terribly prolific poster, so it's not that huge a task to go through my entire journal and fix it up.

At the same time, I'm going through my LJ and deleting all the posts containing or linking to adult-rated YGO fic, since those characters are all under 18. I've left the non-explicit fic for now, but may go back and delete it as well. We shall see. I don't think even LJ can be so screwed-up as to object to fic that includes 16-year-olds making out, but I've been wrong about how screwed-up LJ can be before!

I've decided, after all, that I don't want to lose my LJ. I don't mind losing the individual posts, but I don't want to lose my account. There are non-fannish communities I'm on that I really enjoy, and I don't want to leave them. I want to be able to read my friendslist and make comments on LJ. And I want to be able to do it without fear that I'm going to wake up one morning and find my journal permanently suspended for some bit of fic I posted years ago.

If that means my LJ must be squeaky-clean, I shall endeavor to make it so. Even if I end up deleting everything but cat pictures!

Speaking of which, here's another!
