Rosie straightened up and dried her eyes. It was as if merely the thought of taking care of this issue had banished her sorrow. "So where shall we go?"
Reine smiled at her. "First, we must send a messenger to the Ick'clish. Who can we trust that will arrive quickly? We don't want to tarry, but Angra doesn't yet know we have the map. That gives us some time. So we can travel slowly, and hopefully the messenger will arrive in C'leecka soon enough that the Ick'clish delegates will reach Rana-Liscoma shortly after we do."
Rosie thought for a moment. "I think Samuel would be our best bet. He's a fine, honourable young man, and he's strong and capable. There's no better horseman in Eddleton."
"Let's have him send your message then." The sorceress asked for some paper, which her friend dutifully provided. She wrote out a letter in the language of the Ick'clish, folded it, and sealed it with her personal sigil, a small tongue of flame upon the rune for R:
"Now, bring Samuel here. I'll tell him where to take this. Then we can take the next few days to prepare for our journey, and we can set off for Rana-Liscoma. Are you ready, young Miss Brooks? You are about to embark on an adventure. You've always wanted to meet the Staglings and the River Folk. Finally, you get your chance. Are you prepared?"
Rosie shivered. "I'm excited, but I'm also very anxious. This will indeed be an adventure. Now, let me go and get dressed, so that I can find Samuel."
This is the end of chapter one. Please, I really want some feedback. What do you guys think? What do you like or not like? What needs to be tweaked? Any suggestions for upcoming chapters?
