My
skins_bigbang fic is up to just over 3k! Woop! I guess that's nothing to be too excited about, since 7k is the recommended word count for last week's check-in. XD A bunch of people are already done with one or two stories which makes me feel slow, but I'm far from the only one still under 5k so I don't feel too bad. I need to get as much done as possible over the next week and a half though, because I have to take a trip to Michigan for my best friend's wedding at the end of the month, and rough drafts are due soon after that.
All my old icons and graphics have been moved over to
virgoluvspisces , and I even have a new post over there! I made icons from A Single Man, Lost in Translation, VickyChristinaBarcelona, and Skins ep. 3.10 over the last few days.
I just watched A Single Man the other day. I really liked it, it was a gorgeous film.
Not to completely spoil the ending, but it was a bit unsatisfying. I saw it coming from half a mile away, but it was still pretty sad and ironic. I liked Colin Firth's performance though, you really sympathize with him as he goes back and forth over whether to kill himself and flashes back to memories of his dead lover. One of the coolest things about the film is how whenever he sees something that makes him appreciate life and want to keep living, all the colors become more intense. All the reviews of the movie basically say 'Tom Ford, the director, is a designer and it shows' and that's really quite true, but it's not at all a bad thing. The 60s setting is really detailed and the cinematography is beautiful. Nick Hoult really knocked it out of the park too, I thought. It was weird to see him with a fake tan and an American accent, but he didn't do a bad job with it. He sounded like a perfect 60's California boy, and really he must have watched a ton of terrible films from the era to get that accent down so well. Julianne Moore didn't do half so well with her British accent, especially when she tries to play British and drunk. Overall though, it's something I would totally recommend watching, especially if you like the gays, or have ever desired to see Nick Hoult's and/or Colin Firth's bare ass. That is totally in there. Now I've told you, ok? Now you know.
I re-watched VickyChristinaBarcelona today too. Love that movie, although the best character is probably neither Vicky nor Christina, but Maria Elena (aka Penelope Cruz). She's so wonderfully neurotic. It makes me want to write a story called VickyChristinaMariaElena, and get rid of Juan Antonio altogether :P
