I turned around and she was.....gone

Oct 09, 2007 00:11

I was at work this afternoon monitoring my patients...the charge nurse and I turned one of the patients who can't move on her own. I walked the line of my patients once more checking blood pressures and when I got back to the lady we turned she was gone. Her eyes were closed but her lips were pale and there was no movement to suggest breathing. Thank God she was a DNR because we did not have to perform CPR and shock her, (you would understand if you met her). It had been at least a year since she had any real grasp on reality or been able to move herself. It truly was a blessing for her to go this way she simply faded into the next life. One can't help but re-evalute what is really important in your life when you have just stood that close to the death angel. It makes me realize how blessed I am and how much my family means to me. Like I always say...life is fleeting and it will be over before you know it....try not to get wrapped up in worthless drama. Love while you still have the chance to show it to the ones you care about most.

God Bless
