Ah, the joys of student writing

What in the world does one say in response to this?

"To me, people die at a specific time and place. It's something that is inevitable. It was for a reason. There isn't a person that dies in vain."

I mean, come on. War? War crimes? Murder? Accidental deaths? Deaths as a result of preventable problems, deceit, or corporate misconduct? The list could go on and on. But "there isn't a person that dies in vain."

I wonder, does this fatalism carry over into other arenas? Rape? Domestic violence? "I couldn't help but beat you, dear. It's part of God's ineffable and divine plan."

To quote piezocuttlefish, "If it's all part of God's plan, God is a twisted motherfucker."

Amen to that, brother.
