busy day! i am chasing computer magic -- or, apparently, more magic. see, in a previous version of our software there were two ways to do a thing. that's not good -- that's twice as much code to debug and maintain -- so we stopped using one of the ways, although we left the old code bits for it sitting inaccessibly around. our support team has, it seems, been diligently updating the information required for the no-longer-used way this whole time under the impression that the whole thing will stop working if this isn't done. we just moved servers and didn't update the old way's information. the whole thing has stopped working.
it's things like this that keep geeks superstitious, you know. somewhere in there are little demons running around the circuitboards bottling up all of the magic smoke.
on the other hand, i was randomly complimented on my sith lords kick ass teeshirt in the elevators on my lunch break, my co-worker just im'ed me about the new star trek cgi releases, and these prompts are giving me all sorts of ideas....
