So it's starting to look like this trial run at work may turn into a permanent promotion for me. Everyone is pretty happy with my work, of course it isn't happening by accident -- I've been putting in MAD hours in the office and in the evenings. I'm starting to feel more in-control of the situation, though.
With my official change of position, I anticipate a pay raise. The number of hours I'll be putting in once things settle down will be 50-60, which is like 150% of my former position. The amount of additional responsibility (as abstract as that is) must amount to something like 300% of my former position. I'm tempted to request a 50% raise, although I don't think that will fly considering my utter lack of prior management experience, education credentials, etc. So, I think I will aim for a 33% raise and an opportunity to get to that 50% point within a couple of years. I wonder if I should ask for more as a basic negotiation tactic? It's not really in my nature to haggle, though... I'm a little afraid that they won't be able to do this. I can only hope for the best, though, because I can't exactly afford to walk away. We'll see how it goes!
edit: I realize now that my reasoning may be a bit naive. I'm going to check some salary calculators to see what is typical for this area and position.
edit2: After reviewing some of the positions on salary.money.cnn.com, I don't think I am being over-ambitious. If the company is reasonable, things could get very exciting!
