week seven
so, i am still in thailand, altho not for long. the last seven weeks have passed relatively quickly, altho there is a noticable deceleration in the speed with which time has been passing.
i must apologise for the short length of this entry after having not journaled for quite some time. i am a little, you might say, digitally impaired, which is what comes of putting your hand rather too close to a ceiling fan. but it should heal pretty quickly; there aren't any bones broken or peices missing etc.
at the moment i'm staying at an orphanage in a small vilage near the city of khon kaen, in the north-east of thailand. every day we've been working on renovating a house the orphanage owns, and also spending time with the children there, helping the staff out. it's been really rather fascinating, and i've enjoyed learning how to mix concrete by hand, lay said concrete, make walls out of breeze blocks. we've also dug a huge hole (something like 5' deep, 12' long and 6' wide) for a septic tank, which gives you great sense of achievement for some reason.
it's relatively remote, which means i don't get to email rosie nearly as often as i'd like, but at least i have a thai sim card and so can talk to her without it costing me a fortune (and her too much as well). the thought that i'm still two weeks away from half-way is adding to my missing of her, but i'm keeping myself going by reminding myself that when we get back to thailand it'll only be four weeks before i see her, and we've managed seven now, so that will be a piece of cake. relatively speaking that is; i certainly don't ever want to go for this long apart again.
in week we'll be going back down to bangkok to fly out to the next place, from where i don't think i'll be updating livejournal. but hopefully you'll get at least one more entry before i leave.
