Permission to quote you in an academic essay on a Hawaii Five-0 vid tishaturk July 13 2011, 01:23:52 UTC
I'm writing to ask for your permission to quote you in an academic essay I'm writing about lamardeuse's Hawaii Five-0 vid "Something's Gotta Give." The article is for the journal Transformative Works and Cultures:
http://journal.transformativeworks.org/.
I should add that although I'm writing to you under my professional name, I'm also a fan and vidder (Buffy, Due South, Firefly, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Star Trek reboot) with an LJ under my fannish name.

I already have lamardeuse's permission to write about the vid and quote from her LJ, but I also want to quote from general fannish discussion of the show, including some posts on http://hawaii5-0slash.livejournal.com/.

Here's the paragraph in which you're quoted:

For fans attuned to signs of affection between the two characters, the exchange was quickly adopted as key evidence for those feelings. and_ed’s episode recap (2010) quotes the lines of dialogue approvingly; elandrialore, too, quotes the dialogue and sums up her reaction: “I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS SHOW, OMG!” (elandrialore 2010b). The sentiment is widely shared; hai_di comments on and_ed’s episode recap that “‘Tell me about it, I picked you, didn’t I?’ were my very favorite lines” (and_ed 2010). Over at the Hawaii5-0Slash community discussion post, commenters respond similarly: “I picked you, didn’t I. Squeeeeeeee” (indigocat); “That line, and Danny’s corresponding smile […] had me also smiling and sqeeing” (michele659); “Really loved the end banter, when Danno told Steve he really knew how to pick his friends & Steve said ‘I picked you, didn’t I?’” (cmariad). lamardeuse can rely on fans of the pairing to understand why this scene would warm Danny’s “old implacable heart” precisely because those fans have established among themselves what the scene means.

The quote is from the comments to this post:

The essay will *not* include a direct link to the post.

Are you all right with my using this quote in this way? If you need more information or more context, please let me know; I'm happy to send it to you.

Thanks for considering this request!
