Author's Notes: This is my sixth Steve/Danno (aka Steve/Danny) work. It's another little piece of fluff my Muse dropped on me for the holiday.
If you hover your pointer/cursor over the Hawaiian phrase used within this work, you'll get an English translation of it. At least if the coding worked the way it's supposed to.
Any kind of criticism is welcome by me, especially if it's constructive. I appreciate the thoughts. But I hope you'll be gentle. Please leave me a comment, if you dare.

It was early the Friday morning before Valentine's Day. Grace Williams came bounding through the gates to the mansion in which she lived with her Mother and Stepfather. Danny leaned down to kiss his daughter. As he did he noticed that, along with her usual school paraphernalia, she was carrying a clear plastic bag full of medium-sized boxes. "Whatcha got there, Monkey?" he asked, looking in the direction of the clear bag.
"Candy hearts for my class. Mom and Step-Stan had them made especially for me to give out at our class party," Grace replied. "They're personalized for each of my classmates and my teacher."
Of course Rachel and Stan had them made especially for Grace, Danny thought to himself. He tried to keep his expression over this display of wealth neutral, for Grace's sake, but it wasn't easy.
"We're having our Valentine's Day party today, instead of Monday, because we're supposed to have state achievement tests all day Monday," Grace told her Danno.
"Candy hearts, huh? Can I see?" Danny asked. An idea was running through his head, but he had to know if it would work first.
"Sure," Grace replied, taking one of the boxes from the bag and handing it to her father. Danny looked at the box and, seeing what he wanted, he returned it to Grace.
"Do you know where Mom ordered these from, Monkey?" Danno asked.
"Sure, Danno," Grace replied. She gave him the name of the candy store, which Danny dutifully wrote down. "Why do you want to know?"
"Oh, I don't know," Danny shrugged. "I've been trying to come up with a surprise for Steve, Kono and Uncle Chin for our first Valentine's Day as a team and something like this just might be fun."
"But Danno, I thought you and Steve were going out on Monday night." Grace remarked to her father.
"Yes," Danny replied. "We are." Danny tried not to think of something else he wanted to do on Valentine's Day with his lover. Not in front of his innocent eight-year-old daughter. He continued, "But if I'm giving Kono and Uncle Chin something at work, I have to give Steve something there, too. What is it they always say at school? 'If you don't have enough for the whole class, don't bring anything for anyone'? Or something like that?" Grace nodded. "It's the same thing with people at work; you have to bring enough for everybody. So, Steve'll have an 'at home' present and an 'at work' present."
"Cool!" Grace told her father. "I wish I could get double presents!"
"You already do," Danny reminded her. "You have two parents, a Step-Stan, and a Super SEAL (who may become more than that to you, if this goes the way I want it to, Danny thought to himself). You also have three families worth of relatives (so far, he said to himself). You are in NO way lacking in the present department, Monkey," Danny said in a no-nonsense tone. Then he started the Camaro and took her to school, before she was late for class and he for work.

Bright and early Monday morning, Valentine's Day, Danny strode into Five-0 Headquarters at Iolani Palace. He was carrying a clear plastic bag with three medium-sized boxes, similar to those that Grace took to school on Friday morning. His teammates were standing around the computer table, waiting to begin the morning briefing.
Steve eyed Danny warily as his partner approached, his eyes communicating what he couldn't say out loud: You didn't have that bag with you when you left my place this morning. Danny's eyes replied: No, I did not. I picked it up when I went home to shower and change, since I had no clean clothes at your place.
Kono spied the bag as well, however she was less wary of it than Steve. Kono was actually excited. "What's in the bag, Danny?"
"Well," Danny started, "since this is our first Valentine's Day as a team, I thought the occasion should be commemorated. And it doesn't matter if anyone else brought anything. I just decided I wanted to do something special for you guys."
Danny presented each of his teammates with their own box. As he reached Steve he stumbled a little, over the cord of a peripheral device connected to the computer table. Danny went down on one knee--thankfully his good one--right in front of Steve.
As Kono and Chin traded suspicious glances from their places at the computer table, Danny hurriedly presented Steve with his box. Then, with Steve's capable assistance, he stood up.
His teammates continued to hold their unexpected presents. "Aren't you gonna open them?" Danny questioned. "I put a lot of thought into them and I really hope you like them."
Kono went first, carefully opening her box. "Ooh... It's a candy heart." Getting curious glances from Chin and Steve she elaborated, "You know... those colored hearts that have sayings printed on them. Only this one's bigger than usual."
"Yeah," Danny interjected. "I got the idea from Grace. Her class's Valentine's Day party was Friday, thanks to a test or something they were having today. Rachel and Step-Stan specially ordered hearts like these, from a place in town, for Grace to give out at the party. I saw them when I picked her up for school and got the idea. They're personalized for each of you."
"What's your heart say, Cuz?" Chin asked. "You never said."
"Mine says 'Bad Ass Cop'," Kono replied, grinning. "What's yours say, Cuz?"
"Mine says 'Techno Genius'," Chin replied with a more subdued smile.
They turned their attention to Steve. He had his box open and was staring at the contents, mouth open. He traded another glance with Danny. He tried to keep his face as emotionless as possible, but hoped Danny could read the shock and surprise in his eyes.
The emotion was definitely read. "Hey, Steven," Danny said, in that teasing/argumentative tone he always used with Steve, "cat got your tongue? You haven't said anything about your present yet. Do you like it, Babe?"
"Y-Yes," Steve stammered, trading another look with Danny which, in turn, made their teammates trade another look with each other. "Yes. Definitely," Steve replied. His voice was still a little weak, but he'd lost the stammer.
"That was a yes?" Danny quizzed. His heart was beating fast now, with excitement.
"Yes," Steve confirmed. This time, he said it loud and clear. No mistaking it. Steve started to smile. "Yes, definitely yes," he repeated once more. Danny looked at Steve and beamed. Even though he knew Chin and Kono could probably see the look he was giving Steve, it was as if Steve and Danny were alone in the room.
"Hey, Steve," Chin said, breaking the spell, "We already told what our hearts said. What does yours say, Brah?
"What does mine say?" Steve said quietly. He looked to Danny for guidance. Danny was no help. He just stood there smirking... of course.
Steve thought quickly and, though he knew it was lame, he replied, "My heart says 'Best Friends Forever'." He said that since it was a phrase that would go with all those "Yes"s he'd replied to Danny's earlier interrogation, and he thought it sounded like something you'd find on a candy heart. Danny rolled his eyes, since it was in no way as creative as the sentiments on their teammates' hearts. Chin and Kono nodded acceptance, but traded another weird look.
There was no way in hell... at least not for the time being... that Steve was going to tell either Chin or Kono what was actually inscribed on the candy heart Danny had presented him with. But not out of embarrassment; more like out of privacy. Chin and Kono were not yet privy to their teammates' romantic relationship, as far as Steve and Danny knew, and the couple wasn't yet ready to disclose it to them.
However, the Cousins were probably soon to learn of Steve and Danny's romantic relationship if they hadn't already figured it out for themselves.
That was because Steve McGarrett's candy heart from Danny Williams actually said "Marry Me".
And, being free of the constraints the recently-repealed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy put on his personal vs. his military lives, as well as with the seemingly pending enactment of Same-Sex Civil Unions in the State of Hawaii to look forward to, Steve had happily accepted his partner's proposal.
