Thursday @ The Zodiac

Went back to the Zodiac on Friday night (I swear I might as well live there), with
fairy_of_ice69 again. Support was from American Eyes, who were a bit dull at first but did throw in some more interesting stuff in the latter half of their set (but still nothing special), and The Zico Chain who may or may not have been any good since they were too heavy for my tastes so I can't really judge. Speaking of loud, the sound was too loud again, and I remarked that it probably wasn't one of the Zodiac's own sound engineers - and as it turns out I was right, the engineer was the headliner's own. Outside engineers always seem to use far more volume than the Zodiac's, I don't know why - maybe they just aren't used to the venue or something. It was a little annoying since Vicky and I usually sit at the back near the bar and chat during the support acts, but that was quite difficult this time due to the volume.

The headliners were Thursday, one of Vicky's favourite bands. Truth be told they're not my usual cup of tea, but I've been listening to them a fair bit over the last month or so since I knew about the gig and they're pretty good. They had a good live presence, very energetic (especially the singer who was dashing about all over the place). Vicky definitely enjoyed herself, bouncing around and grinning wildly for all her favourite songs. I recognised a fair few songs myself, but have no idea about titles since I never do these days. Anyway, it was a good night... not sure when we'll be doing it again though since there seems to be a bit of a gig-drought over the summer while the world cup is on - daft really, but the venues seem to think attendance would be hit too hard to make it worthwhile to put much on.

We walked from the station to the Zodiac, and thanks to the early finish we walked back to the station afterwards as well. Walking to and from the Zodiac is normal for me, but it's nice to have met someone else who's willing to walk as well rather than just hop on the bus or drive. It's not like it's even that far, but some people seem unwilling to walk more than about ten paces without moaning.
