I can't wait 'til the morning, I gotta go now

Audioscope was amazing. Saturday's highlights were Fell City Girl (despite the fact that they were on first, playing to a not-even-half-full room, and seemed a little bit subdued), Ill Ease (who I started out not being keen on, but it grew on me so much by the end of the set... it was a kind of "PJ Harvey crossed with Scout Niblett" deal), Data ( Read more... )

Wotcha.

Well, I live near Oxford and I go to the Zodiac pretty much every week, and try to keep up with the local music scene, so it would actually be quite difficult for me not to have heard of Fell City Girl. They're probably the best band around here at the moment.

I've seen them three times now, and the mid-December gig will be my fourth time. The first time was at Truck Festival in July, the second time was a gig at the Wheatsheaf (a pub in Oxford), and the third time was the Audioscope weekend. I noticed in your journal that you first saw them when they supported Longview - I didn't go to that because [a] I'm not really much of a fan of Longview, and [b] It was the Monday after the Audioscope weekend, so I'd already had two whole days of gigs and thought it might be wise to have a bit of a rest (otherwise I might as well have just moved in to the Zodiac).

So yeah, I'm a big fan. Do you have a favourite song of theirs? Mine is probably 'these are the heart attacks'.

hey, wow, didn't think i'd get such a quick reply. yeah, the 1st time i saw Fell City Girl was at Reading festival this summer. i happened to walk in to the carling tent as they were playing. so glad i did. fell in love with them instantly but didn't know when i'd get to see them again. i'm also going to the December gig. should be great to see them again. well, i bought their EP at the Long-view gig and i've gota say that i do love all the songs on it. that's only 4 of them though. my favourites have gota be 'February Snow', 'Weaker Light' and 'Swim'. i mean, all their songs are great but those 3 particularly. lol, seems like you might as well move into the Zodiac as you go there so often! when i saw Long-view, that was the 1st time i'd been to the Zodiac. i was surprised at how small the venue was. so used to going to huge venues for bands, it was a pleasant change to have the band right in front of you. much more intimate.
Vicky.

It's a matter of perspective - the majority of the gigs I go to are at the Zodiac, so I consider that "normal" now. If it's bigger than upstairs at the Zodiac, then it's "big". If it's smaller than downstairs, it's "small". Everything in between is average.

I have 'These are the Heart Attacks' on CD too (it was on the compilation CD for this year's Truck Festival). I'm about to go out now, but when I get back home I'll try to remember to upload an MP3 for you. Comment in time and you can choose your bitrate (and I can do an M4A instead of an MP3 if you can play those).

Well, I'll see you at the Zodiac on the 17th then. I won't recognise you, of course, but given the size of the downstairs venue and I'm pretty sure I'll see you!

lol. to me, the Zodiac is tiny. and it prolly will be one of the smallest venues i got to. yeah, the Zodiac being being that small, i'll prolly bump into you or walk past you even though i don't know who you are or what you look like. chances are i'll be at the bar to begin with as i've jus turned 18. Happy Birthday for the 29th by the way.
i have no idea what you're talking about in the 2nd paragraph by the way!
Vicky.

I once saw a lovely singer-songwriter called Rachael Dadd in a little room above a pub in Oxford, with an audience barely in double figures. That's tiny. Somewhat larger than that extreme, there's another pub in Oxford called the Wheatsheaf that puts on loads of gigs, and has a capacity of about 100 or so I think. That was where I saw FCG for the second time.

Thank you for the 'happy birthday'. You had me panicking for a moment there, wondering how the hell you knew, until I remembered that [a] I mentioned it in my last entry, and [b] it's on my profile anyway. I'm putting my moment of stupidity down to the extremely long workday I've just had (about fourteen hours, including the time it took me to travel to London and back on the train). Have I mentioned how much I dislike trains?

As for the other paragraph, give me a minute and I'll post a musical gift to your journal...

hey, thanks so much for the lovely birthday message you left me. oh of course the magical musical-ness you left too! unfortunately, i'm at college and can't get to it as college are so damn tight on what we can and can't go to! you didn't mention that you hate trains but i guess that's something i now know about you! i won't judge you on your lil panic you had! i'm sure working the 14 hour-ness of the work was entirely to blame! Hello again - long time no reply. Sorry, I spent a few days in Birmingham and didn't go online once, and am only now starting to catch up on emails and so-on.

Did you manage to download the song at home? If not, it should still be available for a couple more days (the links expire after a week or so if memory serves). Alternatively, I could burn it (and a bunch of other stuff) to a CD for you and give it to you at the December gig, but this would probably need to involve one of us knowing what the other looks like.

In other FCG news, the latest copy of Nightshift (Oxford's free local-music magazine) has an interview with Phil (the lead singer) and he mentioned that they'll be "releasing something in February I think". That would be quite a quick turnaround for an album, but it's possible - so fingers crossed!

well, i hope you had fun in Birmingham. never been there in my life so i don't really know what else i can say about that!

i haven't been online either this weekend, been out of the house pretty much the whole time. so in answer to downloading the song, no i haven't. it's up to you as to whether you want to meet in person! i'll be the girl with the 2 15 years at the front if not by the bar with a pint and a cigarette! lol. can't miss me!

ohhh, i really hope FCG release something new in February! can't wait for a full album to be released!
