I am home! I am in Iowa City, I am home, I am home! Oh, I cannot tell you how good it feels. I haven't been this long gone - two weeks - in a couple of years at least. We (my mother and I) arrived yesterday afternoon, and this afternoon she left. And it was then that the HUGE sigh of relief in my mind was released, and I felt fully myself again, and adult again, and free again.
Amazing, the things my mother makes me think. I always think I'm different from when I was in high school - and I am, most definitely - but it all comes crashing back, and is quite jarring. I am highly glad to be back.
My ipod's files were deleted when I connected it for the first time to my new computer, and now I have dozens of cd's to re-import. :(
There are many more robins in Des Moines than in Iowa City. Iowa City has robins, but not nearly as many as are in Des Moines. In Des Moines, they are everywhere. In Iowa City, everywhere are these little brown birds that seem to go around in groups. Where there's one, there are ten somewhere close, you know?
[I edited this for grammar's sake, because at first I wrote, "Where there's one, there's ten," and that's 'there-is-ten' which is highly wrong...but I never even noticed that before. How sneaky of English, really. Or perhaps it's just that I'm just absent-minded. I don't know that English actually has a malicious intent, nor some subversive purpose at hand with this particular contraction, and so it is probably just me.]
I have named them 'Tarks' in my head for no specific reason; it just seems to fit. *nods* And no, I don't want to actually look up what they are. They are called Tarks. :P And there is no singular, one Tark bird or something, because they are always with their fellow companion Tarks, and are therefore always plural. :D
On the way between Des Moines and Iowa City, there is this porn shop right off the highway, and they have this large-ish yellow sign with "ADULT SUPERSTORE" written on it in black. You can always see it while passing on the highway. And until recently, there was, in the very next field, a yellow billboard with "JESUS: THE ADULT SUPER SAVIOR" written in black, in the same-ish font. I *always* get a kick out of seeing both.
But recently, in the past few months, they changed the location of the second billboard, so now it's a few miles before instead of straight after. :p It makes me wonder why.
