1) What's up with the chandelier fall being switched? I suppose it's because there's no intermission, and no need for a big finish during the middle...and perhaps it does add to the end's beginning of climax. But it distracted me; they even changed a line in Masquerade for it.
2) Christine was very very good. I enjoyed seeing her as young and not quite polished in her singing, yet with undeniable talent and the ability to mesmerize. Such a beautiful voice.
3) The chemistry between the Phantom and Christine was much better than Christine's with Raoul.
4) I liked Raoul anyway, though. Liked him quite a lot. Which is odd, because I never liked Raoul before, and I've seen it twice on the stage.
5) The Phantom was so. so. awesome. So awesome. So good we love we hug and cry for him. We loooove. Twisted lunatic, though. Love the way he was played with such humanity in him. Was perfect.
6) How much did I adore Minnie Driver's portrayal of Carlotta? THIS MUCH. *holds out hands really really wide* She's just awesome. :D
All in all, an eeexcellent couple of hours or so. My favorite full song is still Point of No Return...and my favorite song piece of all is the same as well. It's just a snippet at the very end, the Phantom with the monkey music box:
Masquerade...paper faces on parade...hide your face so the world will never find you...
*siiigh*
Edit: I have another favorite quote, too. << >>
"Angel of Music, you deceived me. I gave my mind blindly."
Except in the movie, it's "I gave you my mind blindly," and she says that part. It still works well. :D But I love when it's sung.
