My favorite song from a musical, or very nearly as makes no difference, is Skid Row from Little Shop of Horrors. It's not my favorite musical; not even in the top five. Maybe in the top ten. But the magic is in the musical arrangement of Skid Row, and when you combine it with the desperate need to not feel trapped in an ugly place with no future, with little hope of leaving, it all comes together into something more.
Ellen Greene and Rick Moranis are not strong singers so this video does not showcase this song like it should. However, when choosing between this version or the smattering of high school productions, we'll take it. It does ok.

I love the
2003 Broadway revival version. Much much better.
Also, it is worth noting that I am selfishly biased toward songs that I can sing capably--which are the songs in alto range.
