"So, come on home. Come on home, just don't forget to leave."

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Or, happy Saturday to my non-US friends!

I'm in Prescott for the weekend, and it's very nice to be out of the sweltering heat and into the ... not-so-sweltering heat. It's only around 95 degrees here, not so bad. It's been threatening to rain all day, though, so hopefully the fireworks will still be on.

Along with the usual tasks that face me when I come home (making my parents play nice long enough for me to stand being around them, showing my mom how to use her ipod, etc), this year I went to the rodeo! That's right, I, Melodie Lake, went to the rodeo. :D

Bryce's family had an extra ticket, and I get to see him, what? Once a year? Twice this year, since we're going to visit him and go to Disneyland for our shared birthday next weekend. Still, even though I'm decidedly not the rodeo-going type, it was fun to see him and his family and hang out with half of Prescott while watching people grapple cows in the mud.

My dad also gave me my birthday present - which he, Ben, and Jen & Mike went in on. I will be the proud owner of an Eee PC 1005HA 10 inch Netbook! I've been wanting to get one for a long time, but wavered on spending that much money on something that I essentially don't need. Thank you everybody! I'm really looking forward to getting it and setting it up - my desktop is old and definitely showing it's age, so having something new and high-tech will be really cool.

So, the time has come for me to put my monocle and ear-cuffs in the closet and choose a new cosplay. As much as I have Hakkai-separation anxiety, it's time (especially since I won't have my Gojyo this time around).

Ben (hbi2k) and I have decided to do a couples cosplay, which is something we've both always wanted to do, but couldn't pick a series that we both liked enough to realistically be able to cosplay. So for Saboten-Con this year we've decided to go as Alucard and Integra from Hellsing. The con is on Halloween, so it's perfect!

I've always loved Integra and wanted to cosplay her, so this should be a lot of fun! I'm growing out my hair, and hopefully it'll be long enough by the con so that I won't need a wig. I hate wigs, they are the most uncomfortable things, ever. Plus, my hair is long and straight, so it's just about perfect. (It remains to be seen how crazy I will look as a blond...)

My issue is this - which version do I want to do? There are two anime series, each with a different color scheme for Integra. The manga seems to fluctuate as far as what exactly her outfit's colors are, so both are equally valid. The original anime was hilarious and awesome, but hokey and had to make up its own ending. The new OVA series is darker and follows the manga closely, but can't decide how to stick in the humorous bits and tends to be a little bit boring.

Here's the first option - her original series outfit:

And the second option is based on the more recent OVAs:

I can't actually find where she wears this outfit, though I haven't rewatched the OVA's yet. I'm thinking that I like the first one better, since it's the more common version - you tend to think that version when you think of Integra.

So what do you guys think?
