Fridays are "wrap up" days in my class. We correct workbooks in science and have a Friday Quiz in math. (The Friday Quiz is a short review that we do each Friday. I write 5 to 10 problems on the board and they have about 10 minutes to answer them on their own piece of paper. Then we correct it in class. They can never get less than a "C" on it- I give them points just for DOING it and correcting it. I figure it's HOPEFULLY at least worth the learning experience and review. Besides, it helps keep them honest and lets me see what they REALLY know.)
Anyway, today as we were correcting, I was just simply tired. So I was leaning against the desk in the front of the room. I USED to have a stool in the front of my class. I no longer have one. I was lamenting about the loss of my chair. Then I said, "What I REALLY should do is get a RECLINER!!" *Chunk* Pull the lever, kick back... I laughed, and my kids laughed. Then one of my kids said, "No, you should get a MASSAGE CHAIR!" -I like that idea even better! I said, "I should definitely get one of those, or else a life guard stand."
We joked around about the classroom management style that would be involved with having a life guard stand, and then got back to work. A little bit later I commented that I was tired, and one of the kids said, "We should have nap time." I said, "Okay, it's nap time for the next two minutes. Lay your heads down on your desks. This will have to be a SERIOUS power nap." And almost EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM PUT THEIR HEADS DOWN! -See, this is the difference between middle school and elementary... elementary kids would probably have at least given a slightly disappointed "Ohhh"- but my kids were EAGER. I said that the only rules were: No snoring, and No drooling.
I love my kids. :D
