Inspired by... Keenpea's Better Screenshots Tutorial

Mar 11, 2012 15:56

Okay, Ladies and Gentlemen, it is time for the honoured tradition of nicking other people's ideas and hiding your ripper-offer-ing with the euphemism 'Inspired By'. Contrary to popular belief, it's NOT the first time I've done this (quelle horreur!)- anyone who's read my EA Makeovers has read one of my "Inspired by" efforts. No kudos to any one person for that concept, but still, it's not original. Same goes for the (if I do say so myself) amazeballs house I made for the Autumn Family. Things don't become that amazeballs without a bit of good old-fashioned ripping off.

So. What was the point of that? Well, I was making my daily LJ rounds today when I noticed one of my friends, the Queen of Gorgeousness, her Royal Highness keenpea  (okay, so that isn't really her name) had made a post that looks like this:

Which I thought was an idea that was pure fabulousness, and I was immediately compelled to rip it off  'inspired'. So in this post, I'm going to be fiddling around with this tute and showing off the results! The tutorial mainly involves using picnik for photo editing, which is something I'm quite familiar with, so I've gone 'above and beyond' if you like, and had playtime with some of the other features keenpea didn't mention. Let's go!

So here's the picture I went for to edit. There were a few reasons, mainly just because I really like it! i love the colours for some reason. I know it's a pre-puke shot, but hey, the point here is to improve it. Also, it fits the bill for keenpea's pre-editing requirements- no build mode grid, walls up and tab was used so the angle was just how I wanted it. In spite of that, there's plenty I'm not happy with, and that's what makes it so good!

One of the things keenpea had in her tutorial was eye colour enhancing using the picnik tool of the same name. Obviously, this wasn't really an option for me, because Clarity's eyes are shut- so I decided to have a fumble and see if I could use the colour changing for anything different. What I came up with was essentially changing her eyeshadow as opposed to her eyes- you can see I've changed it to chocolate brown from a bit of a nasty shade of blue.

One of my absolute favourite tools on picnik is the mascara tool. If you look closely on the Autumn Family Legacy's Chapter 8 cover, you can see I couldn't resist giving Oliver some man makeup. It looks fantastic on eyes that are open- but because I'm a bit partial, I added some to this picture too :)

I went on a bit of a makeup splurge, and added some lippy too. Basically at this point, I was just focussed on enhancing Clarity's face.

We can see that because of my awful graphics card and in-game settings, my custom hair has turned into spaghetti. To fix this, I used the wrinkle remover- but I did have to mess around with brush size and fading to get it right.

I also noticed a little black spot in Clarity's hair- which I fixed up using the blemish fix tool. Nice and easy :)

Something I've been DYING to try out has been the highlights tool (you can see it on the left) I tried out the blonde option... which didn't look too shabby at all.

The fold on the elbow was also a little too exaggerated, so I fixed that up using the wrinkle remover. Because it was a more pronounced wrinkle, I turned the fade option right down. I did the same on her shoulder, as those muscle contours were WAAAY too exaggerated.

A big problem I have is that the lighting in this house was awful, and washed out my sims, so I decided to try out the 'Sunless Tan', which worked quite well, I must say.

And to finish off, I just sharpened and clarified a little. As in keenpea's tutorial, you'd probably turn up the saturation at this point, but I felt the image didn't really need it.

So there we have it! Before:

And After:

And a gif :) for fun :)

What say you? Like it? Hate it? I'm feeling like she looks a little plastic-y. Anyway, PLEASE check out keenpea's tutorial here.
Please, please, please do. And can I just stress again, this is NOT MY IDEA and is in NO WAY original. Thanks for reading, and once again- check out keenpea
