the last place you would think we would be

Max and I took a last minute trip to Miami Beach. In short, I am barely just trendy enough and he is definitely borderline homeless chic. We are about two minutes away from South Beach, but believe you me- those two minutes make a world of difference. South Beach is like plastic, plastic, plastic. Plastic credit. Plastic high heels. Plastic boobies. Even the mannequin in the storefront was sporting DDs.

We had dinner at Sushi Rock  (the maitre'd had 8-9 inches of hair pointing straight up in the coolest fashion) and walked over to Lincoln Rd. which I guess is considered a "thoroughfare" of legit proportions. There are tons of restaurants and the host is outside trying to get you to come inside and eat in a very carnival game-like fashion. (ie "You wanta de nice food?!" "Hungry? Hungry?") We went to Gelateria Parmalat and had gelato and sorbeto. Terrific. Then we walked around and found a Starbucks Hear Music store (one of 3 separate 'Bucks on this one road) that sold both coffee and cd's and had a surprisingly good selection. But still. We made our way back- saw some more fake fake boobs and people whose clothing cost as much as my monthly budget for eating.

We're going home tomorrow evening- and it should be nice and warm for most of the day, which is nice. We're looking forward to getting more sunshine and then heading back to the Northeast.

I'm going to go have a Pina Colada and get ready for our dinnerdate to Sushi Siam.
