Anybody have any recommendations or dis-recommendations for a webcam? I'm looking for something with good quality but not top-of-the-price-range that I can hook up to my Windows 7 system for videochats with the new grandparents (who are very insistent on the necessity of a webcam so they can see the baby).

Trying to decide what short story to write next as a side project. Options: hard SF space story, augmented reality story, urban fantasy noir story, or mothman story (lots of research in the latter, and I don't have a story idea for it yet). Which would you like to read?

In "The Old Woman By The Sea" (soon to be renamed), "na" is the gender-neutral term, based on "nagara" (used for "citizen"--and going to be removed). Too many people critiquing found it confusing.

I am having knee surgery in 18 days, barring illness. (Sick people, stay away! I do not want to have to reschedule surgery.) This gives me a rather horrible hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think about it, which I try not to. As I mentioned some time ago, I've been keeping a freewriting journal as a creative writing exercise. I have also been writing a short story longhand on the bus. That story, "Blood for Oil," is done now. I've gotten a ton of ideas from freewriting. These are the ones that I think are best. What do you think I should write next?
