Work, Sick & Injured, Dragonhaven

Am still sick. Ugh. But I'm really feeling much better, up to about 85% of normal. Also, there's a lot of work right now. This is good, but it meant I got no weekend and am rather sleep-deprived at the moment. My executive decision to totally ignore work rules about not having beverages at one's desk has really improved my morale, though. And so far I have resisted the urge to kill the coworker who sits behind me and blasts her radio with complete disregard for anyone else.

Today was physical rehab day. Lots of playing with pulley machines, bouncy balls, and some isometric exercises that I'm not sure I could have done even before I injured my knee. Also, the swelling on my knee is worse again. Road trip to Wisconsin wasn't good, and it's been tweaked a few times. It was also mentioned that if I get something like a cold before surgery, it might have to all be rescheduled--and given that it takes about a month in advance to get a surgery room, that could be a while. I don't want to wait. I want it over with.

Just finished reading Robin McKinley's Dragonhaven. Very, very good. Modern fantasy/young adult coming-of-age story, can be enjoyed by adults and teens. It's only fantasy because there are dragons, but they're very, y'know, scientific-type dragons. In tone, it reminded me strongly of Steven Gould's Jumper (the first one) and Heinlein's entirely enjoyable juvenile novels.
