WTF Google language tools?
For the record, I love Babelfish and Google Language Tools. Not because they're actually useful, but because the gramatically garbled nonsensical texts they produce nine times out of ten can actually be quite amusing.
So from time to time, I run a short bit of text through one of these programmes just to see what they'll come up with. I often do this with a new LJ entry once I've posted it. Like I did yesterday with my comments on Monday's House episode. And what Google Language Tools came up with when translating Kutner's Harry Potter comment into French definitely takes the cake.
My orignial comment was:
the hat didn't want to put Harry in Slytherin and he refused, it was Harry himself who immediately declared not to want to go to Slytherin
What Google Language Tools made of it was this:
le chapeau ne veut pas mettre en Harry et Voldemort, il a refusé, il a été immédiatement Harry lui-même qui a déclaré ne pas vouloir aller à Voldemort
Even if you don't understand a single word of French, do you notice something there?
Apparently Google thinks that Slytherin = Voldemort. At least in French, because it didn't do that in any other language I tried. And mind you, I never once mentioned Voldemort in my original entry, so it came up with that all on its own.
