I just ordered my first half dozen cloth pads and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm actually looking forward to next months cycle, weirdly enough. I started looking into alternative menstrual products a couple of months ago. I was intrigued by the pads as well as the cup. I was reluctant to spend the money on either at the time, our budget is tight and I was worried I wouldn't like/couldn't use them. As a first foray, I bought the Instead Softcup disposables, I didn't mind it but found them inconvenient to use at work. But about 6 weeks ago I got my first yeast infection, which won't go away despite multiple treatments and a prescription and I decided to just do it! I'm hoping that in addition to saving money in the long run, some of the other things I've been experiencing will subside. Tampons give me cramps and odor, and most pads make me chafed and rashy, something that has only developed over the last couple of years. It has also occurred to me that my history of bacterial infections and my recent trouble with yeast may be connected to my use of commercial products. I've read that some experience shorter, lighter, less painful cycles with use of cloth pads, and that the chances of the aforementioned infections are reduced. Has anyone had that experience?
I ordered 4 MamaBear Lady Wear pads (flannel cotton zorb cotton velour) and 2 Mother Moon pads (minky zorb flannel fleece) and stayed in the med/heavy absorbency range. I'm nervous about leaks and I work in a busy chiropractic office so sometimes its a long while between bathroom breaks. I liked how affordable MamaBear is and that they fold out for cleaning and quick drying. I didn't like the look or the idea of the ones with inserts (the holder straps look uncomfortable) and no wings made me worry they'd slip out of place, especially with how many times I'm up and down between my desk and my patients. I was tempted to buy more but tried to go by what I've read and not go overboard in one style. That said, the set of 4 and set of 2 were the most bang for my buck and I only spent $35 total including shipping.
Any tips, thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
