Larpendings and other ruminations...
Well, today is the last day of the Hogwarts larp...the first and probably the last long(er) term larp that I think I am going to play in. I have a lot of fun at the larps, but I find that I myself am really shy about playing my character, although I have a lot of fun watching everyone else!--and ultimately, I am a tabletop gamer at heart. Plus, with the games I'm in right now, as well as assorted job-hunting, dog-walking, gimp-chauffeuring, and museum-volunteering occupations (and I'm thinking about picking up a day shift or two volunteering at the wildlife rehab center where Jeremy helps with the owls), I am thinking--to paraphrase Maria Bamford--that keeping up with the larp would "cut too much into my sitting-around time". Or rather, my "step aerobics, walking/jogging, and jumping around like an idiot playing dance dance revolution to try and ditch some of the extra lard I'm hauling around" time. I would like to fit into my cute clothes again, thank you very much; and when I am busy I'm finding that the exercise is the first thing to go, along with the healthy cooking.
On the job search front, I'm applying for positions in: Tacoma, WA; Medford, OR; Albuquerque, NM; Albany, NY; Ann Arbor, MI; and Asheville, NC. One also just opened up here in Indianapolis, and I am trying to decide whether or not I am going to apply for it. Most of the people I know around here are either leaving very soon or are planning to do so within the next five years; plus, I am tired of living in the midwest (I've been either here or in Oklahoma since 1994) and would like a change of scenery; plus. I don't think that, specifically concerning Indiana, I would want to live anywhere but Bloomington anyway, and I've found out over the last couple of weeks that the commute from Bton to Indy sucks. But it is a job I'm really qualified for, at a museum I'm not sure I would mind working at, and we wouldn't have to move too far. So we'll see.
So, can anyone tell me anything about any of the other places I'm applying?
