Self-Promotion

My Kickstarter project has made me realize exactly how bad I am at self-promotion. I knew it wasn’t my strong suit before, but it’s been hard to get the nerve up to put this one out there.
The only way that I will raise money is if people know about it, but it makes me feel like I’m a pusher when I’m emailing folks and posting links here and there. I like it when people happen upon what I’m doing and enjoy it, but that doesn’t really get you very far.
How do you self-promote without coming off as as gross?
