I've done a lot of internal tv/movie related squeeing lately which I felt the need to post suddenly.

-OMG ADAM BALDWIN WAS ON CASTLE!!! He was a tough rebellious cop type and Castle (Nathan Fillion for non-castle-fans) tagged along with him for one episode and it was absolutely brilliant to see Jayne order a slightly nervous, in awe, eager to ( Read more... )

Oh crap I am so sorry that I spoiled you then on that aspect of the Beka Cooper series (which is what I usually call them). I have a feeling their official name is the Provost's Dog series or something like that? I won't spoil any more except that they're my second favorite Tortal series after The Immortals Quartet and definitely worth reading. Aly/Nawat is my third favorite Tortal pairing and I do love them it just happened that there are so many great pairings in those series. I love Alana/George too though. I could probably have made a list of favourite pairings just from the Tortalverse. Either Kel/Dom or Nealan/whoever he ended up with would be fifth.

I absolutely love your Jayne/Wash scenerio. You should totally write a little drabble about it (if you want to). I've thought about it more since my post and this is where I'm at now.
I think I'm entirely comfortable with the idea of both of them individually being very fluid in their sexuality (I'd say Wash could easily be completely pansexual and Jayne would be more likely to be bi but on the straighter side of it) I think my next hurdle is admitting that a universe where Wash and Zoe didn't end up together could exist. I did browse ff.net for Jayne/Wash fics and found a decent amount but no really great ones. One of them had Zoe and Mal together to get her out of the way. That's where they lost me - Zoe and Mal's dynamic couldn't be less romantic or sexual if it tried in my head. Or, perhaps Wash/Jayne could happen in an AU in which Zoe died in the BDM instead of Wash. There is something about Jayne and Wash's dynamic in the series though, that if you just nudged it a little to the side I think they could quite easily fit together in a romantic sense. I love Jayne's nickname for Wash being little man and I could quite easily see it used in a really affectionate way.

Yeah that makes the most sense I think - Zoe not being a part of Serenity in the first place. Feels less forced than to have her around and just pretend they for some reason never ended up together. (Or doing what most of the ones I read did - love triangle. No thanks.) Maybe the easiest way to do that would be have none of Mal's squad survive Serenity Valley with him so he's alone until he buys Serenity and finds a crew. That would make for a way sadder and angstyer Mal but I think it'd be easier than introducing a new character. I think you could easily put Jayne identifying as straight down to denial due to religion. Then you could totally have Book help Jayne come to terms with his desires.

This is all definitely sounding more and more plausible the more we discuss it :) Let me know if you don't want to write this because if you don't I'll give it a go. Though I'm really excited to see what you can do with it.

It'll probably be a while before I can get something done too since my new semester started today and I have two interstate trips planned in the next two months. Although a 14 hour train ride seems like a good a place as any to write some slash fic.
