I'm really weird.

This is a copy of an email I just sent to an online comic artist/writer who's comic I discovered less than 10 minutes before I started the email. It's part of my new philosophy that "they must get told that all the time" is no longer a valid excuse to not compliment someone awesome I see on the internet. But I am still socially inept and very shy so it comes off as creepy I think. I've also given up caring about that. If I come across as crazy to a random person (even an awesome random person) on the internet, it won't make the world implode. So here is what I wrote. The web comic is: The less than epic adventures of TJ and Amal (can be found here: http://tjandamal.com/index.html) and as I mention I have only just started reading it, but so far it is so awesome I had a sudden impulse to tell the author/artist what I thought. It was supposed to be a quick comment about how I love the style and the writing but you must know by now I'm incapable of saying anything in a concise manner. So here's what I came out with:

Hi

I read a lot of online comics (I'm kind of addicted to them) and I don't usually do this but I've just found yours and my impression within the first chapters (I'm up to #6) was just wow! I love your artistic style, your pages are simple and never overdone and well drawn. The style of your comic and how often you rely on the pictures without adding dialogue is unique (so far as what I read anyway) and I love it. Your pacing and writing are great, and your characters are so far awesome and I expect they will only get better from here. I like that they are their own unique people. They are TJ and Amal, not defined by stereotyping. I mean, a lot of comics I read have the goth one and the stupid one and the crazy one and the evil one etc and the best depth they get is a character who is made up of more than one stereotype (which I'm not knocking, it works in the comedy). But your characters are so far just people with a variety of personality traits that makes up a unique person. I like that, it's what I strive for when I write.

You seem like a pretty awesome artist which means you've probably been doing this for a while which means you've probably heard this lots before, but I really love your comic =) I read a lot of comedy comics which are more about the punch line of each individual page and less interested in the long story build. This is because I really like comedy but I also like romance. I'm just pickier with my romance because I have a short attention span, so drawn out stories and long arcs usually eventually bore me. Yours doesn't so far though, and I don't think it will. I think it's perfectly paced and even the pages with only the one picture on it fit just right and ummmm convey a great sense of... pace? Ah see now I'm starting to repeat myself. But I really do like your pacing best of all the elements. So yeah, I don't normally contact artists because I'm kinda shy even on the internet, but I just had to with you because I think so far you're comic wins in every possible category. C:  It even fits the small checklist of superficial things that make a comic awesome which I keep in my head (interesting homepage design, click on the page to go to the next one, consistent style and theme throughout the site, easy to find info, archive, and most recent comic, etc) So thanks for doing this, because web comics are awesome =D

Oh that wasn't even slightly weird was it?

Amy

Btw, I really am addicted to web comics. I am quite picky, and I regularly read 11 including this one and have 3 more on my occasional radar.
