I think he was trying like crazy to get up the courage to ask her out after he said "You're absolutely right". If you watch his face/body language as he watches Lois after that, he's nervous.
Then he sort of defeatedly said "We should just call it a night", and only when he hears that her plans are really non-existant, does he get up the courage again. Then when he hears her initial reaction, he thinks she DOESN'T want a date, so he changes it to 'not a date', hears her disappointment, then changes it BACK lol.
But ultimately, he's The Blur, and when he heard about Toyman, he had to follow that up. And I like that they are exploring this, because this is really the first time Clark's had a real personal life WHILE being the Blur, and he IS going to have to juggle that, and yeah, he may not always do it the right way, especially at first.
I think his primary concern at the AoC was to get her out of there. He'd said to Chloe earlier that he didn't want Lois to follow him into danger, which is why he didn't call her back.
And that means he learned his lesson from Metallo. Remember what Chloe said to him that ep? "Clark, what did you think she would do? This is LOIS!"
He caught on to her line of thinking at the AoC and used it, because he needed her to leave to get her out of danger. Anything other explanation would have had her digging her heels in and staying.
Now granted, Lois doesn't know that, but Clark went a LONG way in my book to make it up to her at the end. He definitely could have finished that article on his own, and I think he probably even added a few more mistakes so she could fix them.
I concur, and the fact that there was continuity from Metallo (in two instances in this episode) is helping to keep this season even more connected and showing that lessons were learned AND that there was more than one meaning of the title of the episode.
You see that's why agree with chasingcarz about the order of the episodes. this one would've worked better after Metallo if that was the line of thinking.
I agree that his intentions were good in not calling her, but after reading her mind and knowing how hurt she was I kinda expect not that he run after her because yeah saving Oliver and a bunch a people from a bomb important (Lois would say that herself) but that he seemed/looked more disappointed/upset that she walked out like that. He definitely could have finished that article on his own, and I think he probably even added a few more mistakes so she could fix them. I totally agree with this statement and in fact think that Lois knows this as well. I guess my thing is (and yes happy that Lois was took the high road and was being an adult) her forgiving to work with cool but her going back into flirt mod I keep think don't let off the hook that easily Lois!!! I really glad that she's going to be spending sometime with Ollie in the upcoming episodes. Clark's gotta learn to appreciate her even when she's not in mortal danger. and to realize that Lois is Lois and danger follows her whether she with him or alone so she's better off with him. Thanks for the feedback. :)
To me, he was just glad she was leaving so she was safe and out of the Toyman's line of fire.
I thought the way he said "Lois" as she left was telling, he WAS disappointed he'd hurt her, but being who he is, he also needed to get to more pressing matters - the bomb and the room full of people.
That's the thing Lois is always going to be in harms way because that's her nature and it's got nothing to do with him. She's an investigative report after all. I guess it more what my previously quoted friend he shows her more affection as the blur, which is kinda funny. because I feel part of the reason he hasn't called her as the Blur lately is that he's been jealous of himself. One of the great triangles of all time and it only includes two people I love that. I guess most of what bothered me about it really is the imbalance Clark always knew what she was feeling why she had no clue. Which means she had to go into defensive Lois mode after opening her yet again to be stood up by Clark. Remember cafe scene in season 8. I mean come Clarkie you can only stand up a hot chick so many times before some other guy comes and sits next to her instead. Really looking forward to CrossFire though. Looks like he's finally manning up.
