For linguistic deprivation to look at all political, as opposed to purely accidental, requires more than that someone benefits from the bias thereby introduced. Deprivation in the political context implies that someone else is responsible for imposing the limitation, for withholding that those deprived are seen as lacking. ...and then Sacharissa Cripslock burst in and set them all ON FIRE?

YES.

Or possibly stabbed them all with a sharp pencil. :'D

Or dropped presses on them. One per head. (See how the well-embalmed Mr. Slant likes them apples, he'll be taking tips from Reg Shoe soon enough!)

It would require quite an elaborate trap to drop presses on all of them. And poor Mr Slant, you know he's only in it for the money.

Well.

True.

But even so! Besides, he always ends up on the opposite side of Progress (tm), what is that nonsense?

I knowwwwwwwwwwwwwww BUT. For money!

(I like to think of them all having weekly evening sessions of perfectly harmless and very silly plotting in their Secret Society outfits as an excuse to get away from their wives for a bit. And meanwhile their wives are all getting together and having idk much more exciting evenings involving gambling and tipsiness and amusement at the expense of the poor silly husbands who aren't fooling anyone.

I don't know, I just tripped over that original quotation when I was skimming an article, it struck me as such a silly idea, that there might be an Elite Conspiracy out to prevent everyone else from getting hold of these 'linguistic weapons'. :'D)

Bridge is an art not best conducted with a blood alcohol content sufficient to make a woman be honest about her opinion of her dear friend's dress, Lady Rust reflected, a little late. Her partner's hands were beginning to tremble noticeably; worse, she was still laughing at her own joke, while Lady Selachii, whose dress it had been, aimed determinedly for absolute zero in her psychic emanations.

Lady Rust didn't regret her unwise choice of partner too much, though, given that she had caught Ronald getting fitted for cowls again only the other evening, and robes were ridiculously expensive these days, the city having rather a shortage of conspicuously uncapitalized seeamstresses ( ... )

He may lose money, but she's going to lose MORE money, so THERE.

It's a sensible marriage, I think.

He's got enough money to lose and she's damn well going to have fun doing it. Sounds sensible to me! :'D

♥♥♥ I AM BEING DISTRACTED IN THE DIRECTION OF LADY RUST NOW. And if it wasn't so late and I wasn't so sleepy, I might do something about it. :'D

ONE DAY I WILL CATCH YOU WITH ~DISTRACTION~ AT THE PEAK OF YOUR ENERGY ETC.

AND THEN, LO, THERE WILL BE, idk, EXPLOSIONS OR SOMETHING.

I know because it's already happened at least once. :'D

And the nicest thing about Lady Rust is that she doesn't exist, in canon. Or, well, her existence is strongly implied, given mention of an Heir, but you know, she is not named, she does not appear, &c. Lots of room to play, which I know is your specialty. 8D

Not as far as I know, no. And I am pretty well up on useless Discworld minutiae, although not as well as a few years ago, I admit.

:)

Let's just say I would be willing to rearrange my travel plans and get out the tent, if necessary, hm? Plus, it is such a joy to see you writhe.

I see.

:S

YOU ARE SO ~MEAN~ :'(

(dammit, but I kind of do want to write AM's society ladies having ~FUN~ together now and doing ridiculous stuff and being amused by their clueless husbands, and I'm not sure how much that's just my tendency to get ~DISTRACTED~ by things when I should be doing other things WOE IS ME ekcetra)
