What a great chapter! I was grinning from ear to ear during most of the reading.
So the Lady Inez actually walked right into the trap! Despite Mili´s desperate attempts to warn her: “But ma’am -” said Mili, all anguished frustration.
I almost feel sorry for the unhappy dwarf. Although he didn´t utter a ‘I told you so’, he lost his beard (and his eyebrows) - albeit not one hair at a time.

I very much liked the way you described Mandos through the eyes of Melinna. The passage I liked most (because I know this feeling so very well) was:
"Melinna had realised by now that she was dealing with a committee and managed, just, not to roll her eyes. At least she had sat on enough council meetings of one sort or another to know how they went."
And I admired how ingeniously you embedded what happened to Gogol and Sugar into Melinna´s otherwordly experience.
And I shuddered with thrill and anticipation at the end:
"A close observer might have seen her shadow took a moment to settle back into that of a cloaked woman."

I´m a great admirer of your style. I can´t quote all those little jewels scattered all over your texts, which make your stories so vivid, colorful and a pure pleasure to read. Like how Mili "collapsed slowly at Lady Inez’s elegantly shod feet."
Now I await eagerly the next chapter. How will Melinna react to the new color of her hair?

Wonderful, I am so glad you enjoyed this! But you know that, of course. <3 I've almost got the next (and last) section done, you may be pleased to know. It'll be good to put an end to this story after so long!

Lady Inez was bound to walk into the trap, especially since Mili was against it (villains have a terrible weakness to this sort of thing, I believe). Poor Mili! He means so well. You can see the stress is starting to tell on Lady Inez as her shadow slips...

And I'm glad the trip to Mandos works for you -- I wasn't quite sure how to handle that, so vagueness won out. Then I didn't want to have a whole chapter without any reference to the urchin and the dragon. :D
