HERE IS A PICTURE OF WHAT FAT PEOPLE LOOK LIKE.

I'd like to step on my soapbox for a minute here.

Hey, journalists, photographers, and managing editors/editrices. So you're writing/publishing an article about obesity studies. Yeah, yeah. Can I inform you of something?

Everyone in America knows what "obesity" looks like.

There is NOTHING added to this article by stealthily taking pictures of walking "fat people" as if said people are criminals unfit to walk the earth. There is a level of cruelty in this practice that is akin to elementary school playground antics.

But no, here we have a full slideshow of the documentation of obesity, just to add to this article. "HAY. HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS OF OBESE PEOPLE SO THAT YOU CAN RECOGNIZE IF THIS ARTICLE IS FOR YOU." Just because you cut out faces doesn't make it right, morally, to use the pictures. I mean, really. This article? If you need pictures, post a picture of a salad. Or a treadmill. Post a picture of some of the researchers who worked on the study.

I particularly love the caption on the photo that says "this is footage of a woman walking [HERE] at [THIS EVENT]." Wow, thanks for the info. Now if she sees this and had any question of whether it was her, she'll have a better chance of knowing for sure, and she'll be sure to realize that the world finds her fat.
