Pyramid Collection, as hit or miss as they are, currently has a skirt that I absolutely adore. The problem is that, well, it's $90, which I could totally justify if it were made from the chocolate brown dupioni silk I saw today at the Joann Superstore.
But it isn't. It's just a polyester/nylon blend, which I could pick up for $5 a yard in any and every color I like.
So, with that gorgeous half-price silk in mind, I looked through all of the Halloween costumery patterns by Simplicity today and the closest thing I could find was their two-tiered gypsy skirt pattern, which I bought on its own merits, but it's only a two-tiered number while this skirt isn't even tiered, it's just, well....
Those of you who are so inclined to make such finery yourselves -- could you be so kind as to recommend sources for a similar pattern (or maybe there's even a standard, non-costume Simplicity or McCall's out there that I've overlooked)? Barring that, does anyone have any tips on how I could adapt a basic ankle-length skirt pattern to imitate the tattered ruffle look here? I have a larger photo from the latest catalogue that I can scan in if anyone's really interested in seeing it more closely. It looks like it should be something that's simple, other than the sheer volume of fabric needed to achieve the look. Am I just creating delusions for myself? :)
