Where we left off: the dog was last seen on the median of Interstate 91, and we just about gave up hope right then. That was about mid-day. I called local animal control and the state police. The police did a cruise by and said they saw nothing.
Then at 2:30 am today, the state police called me to say that an officer saw the dog, still on the median. I went out and met the state trooper out on the highway where dispatch said to, bringing Lannie with me. We walked around in the woods on the median for a bit, then he suggested driving up and down the highway looking for her. On my second pass north, I saw her and stopped right near her. I got out of the car, crouched down and gently called to her, and MY GOD SHE CAME TO ME. I picked her up, put her in the car, got in and cried my face off.
She’s got some scratches from being out in the woods, but no ticks and she just got a bath.
I swear to god I am going out this weekend and pulling down every one of those goddamned signs that worked so well.
None of this would have been possible without Carol Ferrucci of CT Dog Gone Recovery Volunteers Network. That lady went WAY above and beyond with her efforts to help, giving advice, putting up posters, talking to people, setting up cameras and traps, and generally being a terrific support person, emotionally and actually. I am very, very grateful for her help.
This has been a hell of a week.
