I was making posters to expand the search to the west, the east having apparently failed (as did setting up the trap in the yard last night). The sighting yesterday A BLOCK FROM HOME infused us with a sadly misplaced hope.
While getting ready to go to work, my poster-making time exhausted, I got a call - Tilly was sighted in the neighborhood that she’d been flitting around all last weekend! I decided to tour through there on my way to work to see if I could spot her.
While on my way, I got two more calls - “your dog is in my front yard” from the same neighborhood! I’m willing to bet the sighting yesterday was another dog; I don’t think she could have made it here and then back there in a day. Still.
I got to the area of the sighting, and THERE SHE WAS, running along through the front yard of the houses. She ran across the main road (I thought FOR SURE I was going to watch her get hit) and then through a couple of yards before disappearing from sight. I followed her a short way, calling out in my highest, most “Talk to Tilly” voice, and she just ran.
To be expected. She’s in full panic mode.
About 20 minutes later (I had arrived at work), I got another call from someone who’d spotted her. He said she was on the median of Interstate 91. She’d crossed three lanes of highway traffic.
I called animal control. I called the local police, who connected me to the state police. They sent a couple of cruisers to look for her, but they reported that they saw nothing of her; Animal control also got back to me and said they’d had a look and saw nothing.
Now I won’t know if she’s alive or dead until I get another phone call from a spotter - which may never come.
So, this has not been the best day.
Prayers gratefully accepted.
