I just started chemo yesterday. It's not as bad as some people said it would be, but there were a few hiccups along the way. I had taken a Darvocet just before I went in, which is usually not a big deal, but I hadn't had breakfast. Bad Idea. Fortunately, the Chemo Lounge has snacks and I downed a breakfast bar and felt much better. Then, when they tried to flush my infusaport, they found out it was working one way, but not the other. So, I got sent over to the hospital for x-rays and found out that there's a kink where the port line meets the cardiac catheter. It works just fine when positive pressure is applied (injections or pumps), but it kinks back up when negative pressure is applied (drawing blood). I can still get my chemo the normal way, but I'll have to have my blood drawn from my arms. Oh, well. What it all came down to was that a 2-4 hour treatment took 7 1/2 hours.
Also, I am finding out what the doctor meant by "increased sensitivity to cold". It's 70 degrees in here and I'm freezing. Plus, I have to drink everything at room temperature or higher.
Tomorrow morning, I have my "return to work" check-up and in the afternoon, I get the chemo pump taken off. So, I should be back at work on Wednesday (maybe even Monday or Tuesday). I've been off almost two months at this point--I may be a little rusty. It'll be good to get back, though. I've felt pretty useless, sitting around here being unproductive.
Well, that's all for now.
